Where to start

Where to Start.

It's all about the energy in, energy out equation for me.

It's a pretty simple equation when all is said and done.  Make sure the energy you put in your body is lower the energy going out of your body.... for a start.  Not by much, but by enough to start burning the fat you've been storing.

Lets look at the first part  Energy In....

It's what we eat and drink.  Right now that for me consists of full fat coke, cakes, choccies as snacks. Other than huge amounts of snacking, my main meals are pretty well balanced and good.

What i need to change is the following, and i assume this is the same for a lot of people. cut out the crappy snacks, fizzy drinks and fats.

It's not even all that difficult when you think about it.  If you want to get off to a good start that's probably the best way to start.

The other part is what fats i use for cooking and what fats are in the foods i cook.  Cutting out the bad fats and keeping the good one's at a reasonable level.

Energy Out...

Just start moving a bit.  Getting some exercise.  Make some small targets for yourself to start moving and pushing your body a bit.

For me i'm going to be starting with some small runs around the local park, and getting on my turbo trainer.  possibly some weights and bodyweight training.

A turbo trainer connects to the back wheel of your bicycle to make it into a static training bike.  I bought mine second from Ebay about 5 years ago, but they are reasonable in price if you already have a bike.

I'll be putting together starting training regimes that i will be doing myself, along with what i'm eating with recipes and any lifestyle changes that are working for me.  I will add as much information as possible without being overwhelming.

I hope your up for following and if you have any questions or comments, you know what to do.

New Year, New Me

It's the eternal struggle.

Juggling full time work, running 2 blogs (now 3), time with my family, and building on my fledgling photography career, I have let myself go a little.

I say a little, i actually mean a lot.

Bit of Back Story

4 and a half years ago i had a wonderful daughter, 4 years ago, i quit drinking alcohol completely.

At this point i was a fairly fit mid 30's bloke.  knocking around 10stone 6lb(146lbs or 66kg), able to run a half marathon in a reasonable time without really thinking and feeling pretty good.

I ate well and trained well and felt great.  I let that go hugely.

Where I am now.

Right now, hurtling very quickly towards 40, still not drinking alcohol, but eating like a I'm on a mission and not training at all.  reaching the dizzy heights of 14 stone (195lbs or 89kg).

This is not the heaviest i have ever been.  You've got to add another 4 stone on top of this to have my biggest weight.  That was a long while ago, and i never want to allow that again.

I honestly think that knowing I am capable of dropping weight and building my strength and cardio has somewhat made me a bit lazy.  It's also made me a bit bit angry that I could let my weight and health get out of control again.

I would usually reel out all the excuses about now, but i don't really think there is one valid excuse.

So let me look at my starting point and general stats to put all this in perspective.

Age: 39
Height: 5' 5" , 165cm.
Weight: 14stone, 195lb, 89kg.
Half Marathon Time: No Chance!
5k Time: Not tried in a few years
Squat Weight: No.....
Dead Lift Weight: I hope your kidding
Other stats as to what i can physically do: laughable
Cholesterol: High
Lipids/Triglycerides: High

The main thing i'm looking at, is dropping my weight and giving myself some sort of body shape other than lumpy.

The main stat i will look at is weight, which my target is going to be 10stone 6lb(146lbs or 66kg) again.

This blog will be a record of changes, training i'm doing, food i'm eating, recipes, running playlists, kit i'm using, inspiration, etc...  just a bit of everything to keep momentum and to help me push myself.

I'm going to give myself a year to get from DadBod to something hell of a lot better again.

The first Blog Post Proper will be a sort of weigh in, some 'before' photos and some of the things i'm going to change immediately.

Push a little further each day.
